When Kim and I first started talking about an engagement session for her and her fiancé, John, hockey and the Chicago Blackhawks came up immediately. And for two hard-core Hawks fans like Kim and John, we couldn’t have asked for better weather than the 18-inches of snow we had to play with at the end of November.

As much as these two love their Hawks, there is so much more to this couple. They decided to have their session at Cantigny Park in Wheaton, Illinois. If you haven’t been, it’s a nature and history lover’s delight. And while the snow covered up the beautiful plants and flowers, it also gave a sparkly white sheen to the grounds that was incredibly impressive.

Cantigny is special to Kim and John as they have spent many days exploring the gardens, museums, and grounds. John has been going since he was a child, and it’s a special place he’s shared with Kim.

Cantigny is the estate of Colonel Robert R. McCormick that is now a public park. McCormick was known for his role as publisher of the Chicago Tribune as well as for his service during WWI. So Cantigny is home to the First Division Museum as well as Tank Park. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get this fun couple to have a little snow fight by the tanks.

Don’t worry, it ended well.

Of course, an engagement session isn’t complete without the ring, and this is a beauty!

Thank you so much, Kim and John, for sharing your story with me. Of course, this is just the beginning!
